The solution is to start over with a fresh installation, follow these steps:
- Uninstall the product completely using Add/Remove programs in the control panel.
- NOTE: If you wish to retain your history files, at this point, make a copy of the ExamFiles folder and save it outside of the SELFTEST folder.
- Delete the SELFTEST folder (in Program Files), then reboot the machine (this is essential!).
- Redownload new install files and use those ONLY for the reinstall process. The install files are found within your account on the website. Log into your account and then hit the Access Products link to get to the download page.
- Install new engine and test files by double clicking on the files downloaded.
- Set BOTH the icon and the engine exe (file named "testprep.exe" within the SELFTEST folder) for the engine to XP Compatibility (right click, Properties dialog)
- Set BOTH the icon and the engine exe (file named "testprep.exe" within the SELFTEST folder) to Run As Administrator (right click, Properties dialog)
Let us know if you need to have your account reset to allow for more activations.
How to retrieve your history details:
- Locate the ExamFiles folder you copied to another area on your harddrive.
- Within the ExamFiles folder, copy the .xml files listed below and then paste them into the new ExamFiles folder created during the above installation. These files contain the scores for your history but not the details: UserHistory.xml; UserScoreHistory.xml; and UserInfo.xml.
To retain other user information:
- Notes.xml – Save user notes
- UserTestSmart.xml – save TestSmart statistics
- To retrieve the details keep in mind that there will be a separate folder for each practice test you have. They are named ExamID_xxx (xxx = internal numbering). Open the first ExamID_xxx folder you find and copy the file named UserResponse.xml to new ExamID_xxx folder created within the installation. NOTE: Follow these instructions for each practice test you have installed.
- After you have verified that your history details are available, you can delete the backup you created.
